Prysmian Group has secured contracts worth more than €800m from German transmission grid operators TransnetBW and TenneT to supply underground cable systems for the SuedLink Corridor.
Under the contracts, Prysmian will design, manufacture, supply, lay, test and commission 2GW of underground cables from North to South Germany.

“Our ambition to define our future in the overall energy transition landscape is proven to be credible and sustainable as utilities and TSOs continue to recognize Prysmian as the reference partner in upgrading and reshaping power transmission networks.”
The company will deliver a ±525kV high-voltage direct current underground cable system, with the capacity to transmit 2GW of electrical power.
Prysmian will lay the SuedLink cable system across approximately 700km, from Wilster in Schleswig-Holstein to the north-west of Hamburg. Construction will finish in 2026.
The companies say the SuedLink Corridor the largest underground cable project by TransnetBW and TenneT in Germany.
Prysmian Group Projects executive vice-president Hakan Ozmen said: “In the future, we will see an increasing need for cables to export and transmit renewable energy over longer distances from both offshore and onshore wind farms.
“Our 525kV cable systems will connect the wind generation-rich regions of Northern Germany to the major consumption areas further south.”
Last November, Prysmian Group completed the commissioning of the high voltage direct current offshore grid connection project DolWin3, which is located off the German North Sea coast.
