The Japanese government plans to suspend or shut down nearly 90% of old and inefficient coal-fired power plants by fiscal 2030, which may become a major turning point in Japan's energy policy.
According to the plan, about 100 of the 114 power plants built before the mid-1990s will be shut down. The report said that Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshi Kajiyama will soon announce the policy, but did not cite sources.
