As part of the Wood Mackenzie Exploration Awards 2020, Qatar Petroleum, in honor of its outstanding and growing international exploration presence around the globe, has been awarded the “New Venturer of the Year Award”.
Wood Mackenzie, in announcing the award, said, “Qatar Petroleum embodies the future in terms of high-impact exploration from National Oil Companies. It is building an impressive acreage footprint in many of the world’s most exciting basins, partnering with some of the best operators in these plays, the majors. This strategy has already brought success in South Africa, in Cyprus, and in Guyana.”
Following a competition with energy icons like ENI, BP, Total, ExxonMobil, PTT Exploration and Production, and Petronas, Qatar Petroleum is the first National Oil Company to win such an award.
His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum said, “We are pleased to be the first ever National Oil & Gas Company to receive this prestigious exploration award. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues in QP for their hard work and dedication, as one team, that is leading us to achieving our aspirations”
He also said that the award constitutes an important testimony from across their peer group in the energy industry, and comes as recognition of Qatar Petroleum’s world-class international exploration portfolio, which is guided by their vision to become one of the best national oil & gas companies in the world, with roots in Qatar and a strong international presence.
An analysis of licensing and farm-in deals over the year and on an annual exploration survey of 250 senior industry leaders and experts is the award based on. QP’s world-class growing exploration portfolio is recognized by this award, which it continues to develop; presenting an important testament to QP’s growing international footprint and enhances its position on the global energy map. After Total (2019) and ExxonMobil (2018), Qatar Petroleum is the third winner of the esteemed award.
