The country’s Department of Energy has seen 39 new applications for renewable energy (RE) service contracts; and when these projects are advanced to commercial developments, they could yield additional 552 MW of power capacity for the country.
As of June 30, 2020, the DOE has received the following applications: 23 for hydropower service contracts, 10 for solar, four for wind projects and two for targeted geothermal power development.
The proposed geothermal service contracts are for exploration and developments at the Palayan Binary geothermal power plant; and the Tanawon geothermal power plant in Sorsogon and Albay provinces.
