Irish Developer Secures 194MW Solar Trio

11 Aug 2020  by RE News

Highfield Energy has secured the rights to develop three solar farms totalling 194MW in Ireland's first Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) auction.

The projects included on the provisional list are the 95MW Rosspile in County Wexford, 95MW Gillinstown in County Meath and the 4MW Templerainey East in County Wicklow.

Highfield Energy said the result follows six years of hard work, investment and commitment to the Irish renewable electricity sector by the company and its project partners.

“We are particularly pleased for the landowners involved in the projects, they have remained patient throughout the development process and it is great that they will now be rewarded and witness the delivery of these projects,” Highfield Energy said.

It added that a significant feature of the RESS Auction is the focus on community participation.

“Highfield Energy look forward to the establishment of the national community benefits register and the accompanying Good Practice Principles Handbook,” the company said.

This will lead to the creation of community benefit funds that will allow the three projects to distribute a combined €375,000 a year to neighbouring communities during the term of the RESS support.
