Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has secured a contract to supply three M701 JAC generators for Fujairah F3, a 2.4GW gas turbine combined-cycle (GTCC) plant in the UAE.
According to the contract, MHPS also will deliver other auxiliary equipment through Samsung C&T, the project’s lead contractor.
MHPS Middle East & North Africa (MENA) president Khalid Salem said: “The UAE government is promoting the introduction of clean energy, and we are pleased that supplying MHPS’ most advanced gas turbines will contribute to sustainable economic growth in the UAE.”
The new power plant is being built in the coastal area of Fujairah (Qidfa), which is nearly 300km north-east of Abu Dhabi.
Fujairah F3 is owned by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and Mubadala Investment Company, which jointly own a 60% stake in the power facility.
The remaining 40% is owned by Marubeni Corporation, which will build, own, and operate the natural gas-fired facility.
MHPS has also signed a long-term service agreement (LTSA) for the project.
The facility is expected to come online in 2023. Once operational, it would supply electricity to Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) for 25 years.
The electricity supplied to EWEC will be sufficient to power 380,000 UAE households.
EWEC CEO Othman Al Ali said: “This extremely efficient plant will support EWEC’s sustainability and energy efficiency, and is a major project that will enable a reduction in CO2 emissions.
“I am extremely pleased that through cooperation with strong partner companies, we will be able to efficiently and significantly improve water and electricity production.”
In March, Intermountain Power Agency contracted Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems for two M501JAC power trains.
MHPS’ JAC gas turbine technology has been selected for its Intermountain Power Plant in Delta, Utah, US.
