Power Machines has announced it has completed modernisation of the hydraulic unit No 19 at RusHydro’s Volzhskaya hydropower plant in Russia, the 21st of 23 units the company has worked on.

For unit 19, Power Machines performed work on replacing the turbine, generator, excitation system, automation system and auxiliary equipment, increasing power output of the unit.

The new turbine has an improved design and is characterized by a high degree of environmental safety, says Power Machines. The updated impeller has five blades instead of the previous six and is designed for increased water flow through the turbine. Improved technical specifications of the unit allow increasing its capacity by 10.5MW in the future.

Work is continuing to modernise the remaining two units at the project, unit no 10 where Power Machines will replace the turbine and generator, and Unit No 19, where the generator will be replaced.

Today, at Volzhskaya HPP Power Machines continues modernization of two remaining hydroelectric units, with one involving the replacement of turbine and generator and the other replacement of the generator.

Once all 23 units are modernised at the plant, capacity will be increased to 2744.5MW.
