A special consignment of large-size or heavy equipment for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant, construction in India has been sent from Russia to the Indian port of Tuticorin.
The consignment, with a volume of about 5000 cubic metres includes a trestle crane, a transport lock, the main circulation pipeline, a shock absorber for the container compartment of the used fuel pool, the capacity of the additional passive bay system, a sluice cart with a rail track, a hydraulic seal for the fuel pool, the fourth steam generator for Kudankulam 4 and the turbine generator stator with a total weight 1802t. The equipment is expected to arrive at the port of India in early October 2020.
Kudankulam is being constructed under a 1988 Russian-Indian agreement which was amended in 1998. The general contractor (in terms of detailed design, equipment supply and technical assistance) is Atomstroyexport, the general designer is Atomenergoproekt. Atomenergomash is a supplier of key equipment.
Kudankulam is one of the largest nuclear power projects in India and is scheduled to have six Russian VVER-1000 reactors. Kudankulam 1&2 are in operation, units 3 and 4 are under construction and units 5 and 6 planned with preparatory works in progress.
