RWE has announced the start of commercial operations at its 220MW Cranell wind farm in Refugio County, Texas, US.
Equipped with 100 Vestas wind turbines, the facility will power more than 66,000 homes in the region.
RWE Renewables onshore wind Americas COO Silvia Ortín said: “North America is one of our focus markets, with a strong development pipeline in the business.
“With the commissioning of our latest onshore 220MW wind farm Cranell, we’ve now successfully completed our 25th US wind project. This addition to our portfolio underlines the importance and our commitment to this market.”
Including Cranell, RWE operates 25 onshore wind farms in the US, with a total installed capacity of more than 4.2GW.
The Cranell wind facility is said to be RWE’s second wind project to come online this year. The project saw an investment of $250m in the South Texas region.
During the construction phase, it created nearly 300 employment opportunities in the region.
Ortín added: “We are particularly proud this project was completed without a reportable safety incident, and many of the permanent positions at the facility were hired from the local region.
