Chilean state-owned oil company Empresa Nacional del Petroleo (ENAP) has brought online its 10.35-MW Vientos Patagonicos wind farm located in the Cabo Negro industrial complex.
Comprised of three turbines, the wind park was installed at a cost of over USD 22 million (EUR 18.8m), of which USD 5 million came from the Magallanes regional government, ENAP announced on Friday. Chilean firm Pecket Energy SA is ENAP's partner in the project.
Vientos Patagonicos' output, equivalent to the energy demands of about 15,000 homes, is being injected into the Punta Arenas electricity network. This will allow the Magallanes region to lift the contribution of non-conventional renewables to its energy mix to 18% from the current 2%.
The wind farm’s operation will be adjusted in the period between October and February 2021 to better its optimisation and integration into the Punta Arenas electrical system, ENAP noted.
