28 Oct 2020  by renews.biz

ASM Industries has started the fabrication of 42 offshore wind tower sections for the 383MW Fryslan offshore wind project in the IJsselmeer lake in the Netherlands.

Fabrication activities are taking place at ASM Offshore, located in Aveiro Port in Portugal, during the next few months.

The towers will host 89 4.3MW Siemens Gamesa turbines, to be installed in 2021.

ASM Industries CEO Adelino Costa Matos said: “This is a very important milestone achieved.

“Our new facility has successfully been commissioned and ramped up, and this project is one more step towards our strategy to be involved in the most challenging and demanding projects in the offshore industry, cooperating together with the major leading companies, such as SGRE, contributing actively for the energy transition.”

ASM Industries said it has secured a “strong backlog” for 2020 and 2021.

“Over last months we have reached the highest backlog in ASM Industries history.

"Our pipeline of tenders gives us a strong expectation for the future ahead of us, consolidating our presence as one of the main fabricators of wind towers, offshore foundations and marine structures in a unique strategic location,” Costa Matos added.
