The largest wind power project in South Africa is in De Aar, and constructed by Longyuan South Africa Renewables of China Longyuan Power Group Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy). It's the first wind power project that is owned by China Energy Group, which incorporates investment, construction and operation. Since October 31, 2017 when it started commercially operating, the wind farms have already generated over 2 billion kilowatt hours used for 300,000 households. All the turbines and towers were manufactured in China and came to South Africa overcoming very strict inland transport restrictions. In this video, let's follow the workers from China Energy to visit turbine number five, which is situated at the tallest and highest point on the wind farm, to see the structure of the wind turbine and how it works.
