French renewables developer Akuo Energy has made the decision to suspend the 132MW Granite Hills wind project in New South Wales, Australia, citing the ongoing uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The developer communicated its decision this month via a newsletter it distributes to the “community of Granite Hills wind farm”, stating that notice of the decision has been communicated to the NSW Department of Planning Industry and Environment.
Akuo was at the stage of preparing the environmental impact statement for the wind project.
Akuo stated that Covid-19 continues to have a “significant global impact” on most, if not all, industries.
“The pandemic has placed extreme financial pressures on international organisations, causing increased uncertainty for all businesses,” the developer said.
Akuo Energy is headquartered in France, where the pandemic has been “particularly severe”, noted Akuo, and, as a result, impacted global operations.
“As a consequence of this increased business uncertainty, Akuo is currently not actively pursuing the Granite Hills Wind Farm project,” stated the company.
