11 Nov 2020  by Joanna Sampson

Doosan Fuel Cell has today (10th Nov) announced plans to develop a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system for marine propulsion and power generation, based on Ceres Power Holdings’ SOFC stack technology.

The South Korean manufacturer has signed an agreement for the joint development of the system with Navig8, a major shipping firm headquartered in Singapore.

Doosan said it will install a SOFC power and propulsion system in a 50,000-tonne chemical tanker owned by Navig8 for as a pilot program for commercialisation.

Today’s announcement further strengthens Ceres and Doosan’s strategic collaboration revealed in July 2019.

The two companies are together building a 50MW mass manufacturing facility for fuel cell stacks in South Korea.

The contract also includes a global non-exclusive license to manufacture Ceres’ SOFC stacks with technology transfer and joint development as well as agreed royalty streams upon the commencement of production and commercial sale of 5kW SteelCell® stacks.
