Johnson Matthey has joined the Hydrogen Taskforce, a growing cross-industry coalition that wants to establish 100 hydrogen stations in the UK by 2025 and the UK Government to commit £1bn towards hydrogen projects.
The Taskforce was officially launched in Parliament in March, in what was a historic moment in the unfolding of the UK’s hydrogen story.
Aiming to secure investment and support for hydrogen in the UK to enable the country to become a world leader in hydrogen, the Hydrogen Taskforce will align a wide range of stakeholders including government, industry and an informed public with the aim of driving investment in hydrogen to promote its large-scale deployment.
Joining the coalition this month (November), Johnson Matthey said it will bring its extensive experience in the development and deployment of fuel cells and blue and green hydrogen production technologies.
Johnson Matthey’s technologies are already at the heart of enabling the transition to a hydrogen economy.
The company’s market leading Low Carbon Hydrogen (LCHTM) technology has been selected for several groundbreaking new clean hydrogen projects in the UK and its fuel cells technology is out on the roads, powering more than 700 zero carbon buses.
It is also applying its core science capabilities and market expertise to drive large scale adoption of green hydrogen.
When the Taskforce was launched, it made five policy recommendations, the first of which was that the UK should develop a comprehensive hydrogen strategy.
In response to this call from the Taskforce, the government has now committed to publishing a hydrogen strategy by Spring 2021.
