The coal seaport of Shakhtersk, one of the key assets of the Eastern Mining Co., has achieved a record coal shipment rate since the beginning of 2020. As of 28 November 2020, the volume of transhipment for the first time in the history of the enterprise amounted to 10 million t. The anniversary figure has been reached since the beginning of the 2020 navigation opening. The shipment volume at the end of 2019 amounted to 8.8 milliont.
Perseas, which is currently located in the port of Shakhtersk, became the bulk carrier that recorded the anniversary indicator for coal shipment. The vessel received 72 810 t of coal and will soon go to the port of destination in Korea.
“Despite the general decline in demand for Russian coal, Vostochnaya Mining Co. remains one of the key exporters to the Asia-Pacific region due to the high quality of the supplied products and a developed logistics chain. The company annually increases the volume of coal shipment. To this end, the port's production facilities are being modernised, and the fleet is expanding. For example, since the beginning of the year, new barges and tugs have been added to our fleet. The boundaries of the port were also expanded. All of this has a complex effect on the growth of shipment indicators and in the future will allow reaching a shipment volume of up to 20 million tpy of coal,” commented Anatoly Balakin, Executive Director of the Shakhtersk Coal Sea Port.
By the end of 2020, the Eastern Mining Company plans to ship approximately 10.6 million t of coal for export. At the beginning of 2021, reconstruction will be carried out at the Shakhtersk Coal Seaport. In the future, the implemented measures are aimed at increasing the volume of coal transhipment.
