Malaysian company Sapura Energy Berhad has installed the first monopile at the 640MW Yunlin offshore wind farm off Taiwan.
Sapura Energy will install a total of 80 foundations at the project, its first job in the offshore wind sector.
Steelwind Nordenham and Formosa Heavy Industries are each supplying 40 monopiles for the project.
Yunlin will feature 80 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines and is due online at the end of next year.
WPD owns 48% of the projects with Japanese consortium Sojitz Group holding 27% and Thai company EGCO Group 25%.
