China: Tibet Datang Zala Hydropower Station Approved

On December 3, China Datang’s 2020 key approval project, Tibet’s first Datang Zala Hydropower Station with an installed capacity of over one million kilowatts, was approved by the Development and Reform Commission of the Tibet Autonomous Region, marking the group’s high-quality development in Tibet.

The power station is located in the lower reaches of the Yuqu River in Zuogong County, Changdu, Tibet Autonomous Region and Chayu County, Nyingchi City, with a total installed capacity of 1.015 million kilowatts, a designed annual power generation capacity of 3.946 billion kilowatt hours, and a total project dynamic investment of 11.9 billion yuan. After the power station is completed, it can save 1.3 million tons of standard coal each year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.42 million tons, and reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 11,000 tons. It will play an important role as a backbone power plant for my country to achieve carbon peaks in 2030 and carbon neutrality in 2060.
