In the first three quarters, Australia exported 278 million tons of coal, a year-on-year decrease of 17.6 million tons or 6.0%. Among them, steam coal exports were 149 million tons, down 4.8% year-on-year; coking coal exports were 128 million tons, down 7.3% year-on-year.
The Quarterly Report predicts that Australia’s total coal exports in 2020 will be 361 million tons, a decrease of 36 million tons or 9% from 2019. Among them, steam coal exports were 193 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 19 million tons, a decrease of 8.9%; coking coal exports were 168 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 17 million tons, a decrease of 9.0%.
The Quarterly Report predicts that in the 2020-21 fiscal year (July 2020-June 2021), Australia's metallurgical coal production will be 179 million tons, a decrease of 5 million tons from the previous fiscal year's 184 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.7%; Thermal coal production was 259 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9 million tons and a year-on-year decrease of 3.4%.
It is predicted that in the 2020-21 fiscal year, Australia's metallurgical coal exports will fall from 177 million tons to 169 million tons, a decrease of 5%; thermal coal exports will fall from 213 million tons to 199 million tons, a decrease of 7%. At the same time, income from coal exports may drop significantly. In the 2020-21 fiscal year, Australia's metallurgical coal export revenue was approximately 22 billion Australian dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 35%; thermal coal export revenue was approximately 15 billion Australian dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 29.2%.
