The prototype unit has been installed at the Xinjiang Dabancheng wind farm in China and was connected to the grid on 31 December 2020, the company said.

Goldwind will carry out a series of tests on the unit, including a generator convertor ground commissioning experiment, before it starts full commercial operation, it added.

Goldwind launched the GW165-4.0MW and another new unit – GW165-5.XMW – to the market at an industry event in China last year.

The Chinese turbine maker said it has taken around 300MW of orders for the GW165-4.0MW unit, mostly from China.

The GW165-4.0MW is a direct drive permanent magnet wind turbine aimed at medium and low wind speed sites in the Chinese and international markets.

At the China Wind Power 2020 conference in October, Goldwind said that the new turbine will be available with flexible capacity, hub height, tower structure and functional modules for different environments.
