The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) on Tuesday successfully synchronized the fourth generating unit of 150 MW of the 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Plant with the grid in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
With this, the hydropower plant gets fully commissioned.
While unit-1 was commissioned in June last year, units 2 and 3 were commissioned in July last year and January this year respectively.
Each of these units has a capacity of 150 MW.
The power plant is the largest hydropower plant in the northeastern region and will provide reliable hydropower for the crucial balancing of solar and wind power in the grid.
The plant will also supply power to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Nepal.
The plant will generate 3353 million units of electrical energy on an annual basis.
The plant will utilize the water from Bichom and Tenga rivers over a gross head of 536 m available downstream of the confluence of the river Bichom with Kameng.
The project comprises two dams on the Bichom and Tenga rivers and water is transported through a head race tunnel (HRT) & HPT / penstock into the Kimi Power House for driving 4 vertical frances turbines, each of 150 MW.
NEEPCO stated on its website that the design energy of the project is 3353 MU in 90 per cent dependable year with 95 per cent machine availability
