Nuclearelectrica, the operator of Romania's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Cernavoda, said on Thursday that it will shut down one of the plant's two 700 MW units on Friday, January 22, in order to carry out remediation works.
The process of power reduction will start on January 23 at 2301 CET, Nuclearelectrica said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
The remediation works are prompted by a dysfunction of the classic/secondary technological circuit of Unit 1.
They will not have any adverse impact on the nuclear safety, the environment, the personnel or the population, Nuclearelectrica noted.
Nuclearelectrica had initially scheduled the shutdown for January 15-16, but postponed it in order to ensure continuous supply during a spell of extremely cold weather in the country.
Blue-chip Nuclearelectrica's shares traded 1.21% higher at 19.46 lei ($4.48/ 3.99 euro) as at 0907 CET on the BVB on Thursday.
