Chinese turbine supplier MingYang has secured a deal to supply turbines to the 30MW Taranto offshore wind farm off Italy, its first contract in Europe.
The manufacturer will deliver 10 3.0-135 units to the project located in waters off the Apulia region.
A 25-year full O&M service contract is included in the deal with project developer Renexia.
Hardware delivery is due to commence in the summer.
“This project is a key milestone for MingYang to enter the European offshore wind market, and will be executed by Ming Yang European Business & Engineering Center in Hamburg,” said MingYang.
The developer had lined up ten Envision 3MW units to replace the same number of Senvion turbines following the German supplier’s insolvency in 2019. However, Renexia retendered for turbines due to Covid-related delays, as revealed last year by subscriber-only reNEWS.
“This order once again underlines the hybrid-drive turbine's high power generation efficiency enabling the customer to develop offshore wind farm with low wind speed and to ensure maximum value for Renexia's business case,” added MingYang.
Commissioning at Taranto is expected by the year-end.
