India and Denmark on Wednesday said they have launched Green Strategic Partnership, which is a mutually beneficial arrangement to enable Denmark in delivering sustainable solutions to India.
Under this partnership, the two countries would be cooperating through ministries, institutions, and stakeholders to expand economic relations, green growth, reaching climate goals, according to a joint statement released by both the nations.
“The partnership is a vital milestone… both countries are working on government-to-government level in the strategic sectors of energy, water and environment, urbanisation and IPR. This new age partnership will not only lead to creating a green and sustainable future but will also boost job creation, innovation and investments,” said Freddy Svane, Danish Ambassador to India.
According to the statement, the partnership would build on and consolidate the existing agreement establishing a Joint Commission for Cooperation between India and Denmark that envisaged cooperation within the political field, environment, renewable energy, and science and technology, among other issues.
“Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Frederiksen discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and global matters of interest to both sides, including climate change and green transition and reached common understanding with a view to accelerating sustainable economies and societies,” the statement added.
Both countries have set ambitious national targets on climate and energy that would contribute to an ambitious implementation of the Paris Agreement.
