The project team at Nam Theun 1 hydropower project in Laos has announced that in January 2021, they broke the world record for the most amount of RCC placement in a single month.
Afry as the Engineer together with Sinohydro as the contractor placed 361,330m3 of RCC at the project, with a maximum daily peak of 16,462m3. This beats the previous world record of 342,700m3 in a month and a maximum daily RCC pouring of 15,816 m3 held by Longtan dam in China.
Nam Theun 1 is a 650MW capacity hydropower project located at Nam Kading River, approximately 33km upstream of its confluence with the Mekong River and 270km from Vientiane in Central Laos. It’s main structure will be a 177 m high curved gravity RCC dam.
