A newly formed consortium has joined forces to develop a Basque Hydrogen Corridor.
Earlier this week the group announced its formation to develop an entire hydrogen value chain in the Basque Country, an autonomous community in northern Spain.
As part of the commitment the group will make investment of approximately €1.3bn between 2021-26. Further to that, 1,340 direct jobs will be created.
78 public and private entities on Monday (22nd Feb) signed an energy proposal for the development which is thought to be unlike other similar projects.
The energy-industrial commitment to the future will be carried out through the development of 34 initiatives.
As part of one of those initiatives, iron steel contractor Sarralle will develop technologies that use hydrogen in the Electric Arc Furnace (HAE) and Reheating Furnace (RF).
According to a statement, the Basque Country has sufficient strengths and strategic positioning to develop the hydrogen corridor.
