Torque News has a new update about Tesla's Megapack line. Tesla is helping Australian Victoria to reach 50% renewable energy by 2030, by winning a new big contract to supply the Megapack big battery in 350MW in size.
Neoen Austrlia confirms that Tesla is the successful candidate for the project as Tesla flourishes in Australia, playing a part in many renewable energy projects, across a number of states,
Neoen is a France-based energy company that owns and operates solar and wind farms in 13 countries on four continents.
“We are delighted to announce that the Victorian Big Battery has reached this important financial milestone.
I would like to thank the CEFC for their renewed trust and commitment towards supporting innovative storage solutions.
We are on track to deliver this project before the next Australian summer and are looking forward to playing our part in helping Victoria reach its ambitious target of 50% renewable energy by 2030," writes Neoen Australia managing director Louis de Sambucy.
Neoen Australia also tweeted, writing "Construction of Australia's largest battery is underway with partners @Tesla & @AusNetServices already hard at work. Go team!"
Neoen announces that it has completed financing for the Victorian Big Battery, a 300 MW / 450 MWh storage unit located in Australia near Geelong, in the state of Victoria. The project will be carried out in collaboration with Tesla and the network operator AusNet Services. Owned and operated by Neoen, the Victorian Big Battery will be one of the most powerful batteries in the world, and will ensure the stability of the Victoria State power grid.
The financing for the Victorian Big Battery came just three months after Neoen obtained a 250 MW grid service contract with AEMO. The project will be funded by an equity contribution from Neoen and a senior debt loan of AU $ 160 million from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) on behalf of the Australian Federal Government. battery has already started.
Explaining the details of the project and Tesla's involvement in it, techAU's Jason Cartwright writes, "The project will leverage Tesla MegaPack, along with their Autobidder software to sell power into the grid. Autobidder is one of Tesla’s most underappreciated products from the company."
He also explains "Autobidder allows companies like Neoen to autonomously monetize battery assets. Autobidder is a real-time trading and control platform that enables the stored energy in the Tesla MegaPacks to be sold into the market. This happens at a fraction of the speed (and cost) of traditional gas peaker plants that were put in place to improve the response times of the even slower coal-fired power plants. Tesla even references the success of the Hornsdale Power Reserve, on their Autobidder page."
