It’s expected to be done in 2024.

Solar Philippines Biga Corporation reveals plans to erect a 2 GW solar farm project in the province of Nasugbu, Batangas in the Philippines.

The solar farm will be equipped with 6,000 MWh battery energy storage as well as 600 MW diesel backup. It is also expected to boost local employment during its construction and operations phases.

Once in operation, the solar farm will “contribute to the stability of the country’s energy supply, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, and mitigate the impacts of climate change,” according to the project’s description file.

The firm has procured a Solar Service Energy Contract from the Department of Energy, which provides it with the right to explore, develop, and utilise solar energy resources pursuant to the contract’s terms.

The total project size has a development area of approximately 2,000 ha, the description file said.

Feasibility study for the project began in August 2020. Meanwhile, the construction is slated to be completed in 2024.

Should the project fall through, the area purchased to develop it will remain as agricultural land.
