With the establishment of the hydrogen center, the research and development of the technology will be strengthened. In addition, Prime Minister Söder and Minister of Economic Affairs Aiwanger, together with representatives from industry, technology and science, sign the Bavaria “Hydrogen Alliance”. This makes Nuremberg the Bavarian center for research into hydrogen as an energy carrier of the future.
Research on H2 fuel cells
With hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell can be environmentally friendly power are generated. This produces no climate-damaging exhaust gases but only water vapor. The new center will coordinate the research and possible use of such fuel cells.
Alternative to truck batteries
Truck manufacturers, in particular, rely on the use of fuel cells to supply electricity to electric motors. Because currently the battery technology for trucks is much too heavy. Hydrogen technology could therefore be an alternative to batteries. In the future, it will also be used on ships and in locomotives.
Storage of hydrogen
In addition, solutions are sought as hydrogen can be safely, cheaply and permanently stored. The new hydrogen center will bundle the expertise of the research institutes, which are already working on this future technology throughout the Greater Nuremberg area.
