Ambassador of Italy to India, Vincenzo de Luca, signed the Italian membership to the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
The ISA, whose Secretariat is based in Delhi, was launched in Paris in 2015 by Prime Minister Modi on the occasion of the UN Climate Change Conference COP21 with the aim of creating a forum for the development of solar energy production technologies and to enhance sustainable development and strengthen energy security, as well as provide greater access to energy for developing countries.
The accession of Italy takes place in the year of the Italian presidency of G20 and co-presidency of COP26, and on a priority issue such as the green economy. For Italy, solar energy is already the second source for the production of electricity from renewable sources, preceded only by hydroelectricity. It is destined to triple according to the proposed integrated National Plan for energy and climate, becoming the first renewable source of electricity production in 2030. Furthermore, Italy is currently the sixth country in the world for installed solar capacity and second in the EU.
"The energy transition towards clean sources and low-emission energy systems is a priority on which we record fundamental convergences with our partners also in the main multilateral fora such as the G20, the IEA and the Irena. We hope that ISA will be able to maximize synergies with the main international energy organizations", said Vincenzo de Luca.
