The UK government has ruled out postponing November’s COP26 climate summit for a second time.
Bloomberg yesterday reported that officials had discussed reducing the in-person attendance at the event and even delaying COP again because of fears about the continued spread of coronavirus.
However, a UK Government spokesperson said: “We are not looking to postpone the summit.
“We are working on the basis of COP26 being held in person this November, while closely monitoring the Covid situation.
“The summit team is working closely with all partners and exploring what different scenarios might mean for COP26 and how we plan for that, whilst putting the health of participants and the local community first.”
COP26 is due to take place at the Scottish Events Campus in Glasgow between 1-12 November 2021.
It had originally been slated for November 2020 but was pushed back last May after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
