The pact was signed by Energy Minister Alisher Sultanov, and Siemens Energy President Christian Bruch (pictured), who was visiting the country.

The MOU expresses the interest of both parties to explore the potential to expand a strategic partnership and pursue the implementation of joint projects.

Cooperation between the parties is anticipated in several areas, including projects to build new generating facilities, hydrogen energy and training of personnel.

An agreed roadmap also includes the construction of a new thermal power plant with a capacity of 1300-1600 MW.

A formal working group to take collaboration forward will be established within 10 days.

It is envisaged that the MOU will yield “immediate activity during 2021”, with agreements anticipated for developing hydrogen and renewable energy by the summer.

Sultanov said: “Uzbekistan is continuing its momentum of working with best-in-class international partners, to deliver on our energy strategy.

“We are aiming to lead the hydrocarbon-producing world in meeting our climate management commitments. Siemens is globally renowned and we look forward to deepening our relationship.”
