Atlas Renewable Energy has partnered with Hitachi ABB Power Grids to develop and execute utility-scale level battery energy storage systems (BESS) for its renewable projects.
Hitachi ABB Power Grids will provide technical solutions for the development of BESS systems, and will offer its interconnection during the development of a new project.
Hitachi ABB Power Grids Grid Edge Solutions head Maxine Ghavi said: “We look forward to collaborating on projects together with Atlas.
“These projects will build on Atlas’ deep experience with utility-scale renewable projects in Latin America, and our own global Grid Edge Solutions footprint of more than 500MW and 200 references.
“Our proven technologies have enabled customers to create economic, social and environmental value by unlocking new revenue streams, maximising renewable integration and lowering carbon emissions.
“As we look toward the future, we anticipate more need for more systems that support renewable smoothing and ancillary grid services.”
Through this collaboration, Atlas Renewable Energy aims to ensure that the energy storage systems are incorporated in the projects’ design phases.
Atlas Renewable Energy will also invite Hitachi ABB Power Grids to participate in the tenders for the engineering package of the projects.
Atlas Renewable Energy Innovation and Operational Efficiency director Fabian Gonzalez said: “We are very proud to count on Hitachi ABB Power Grids’ team of engineers once again, but this time during the development process of our pipeline.
“In the past, we worked together on introducing the first digital substation installed for a solar plant in Latin America.
“We are now going a step further by ensuring that all our new projects’ design will have the added value of being conceived with the best BESS and interconnection solution.”
In October, Hitachi ABB Power Grids secured a contract from M Couto Alves (MCA) to supply key electrical infrastructure to integrate sub-Saharan Africa’s largest solar project to Angola’s transmission network.
