Enel Green Power North America has begun construction on a 1.5GW renewables and 319MW storage portfolio, including wind farms paired with battery storage.
The projects include the 263MW Ranchland wind farm in Texas, which will be paired with 87MW of battery storage.
It has also started work on the 200MW Alta Farms II wind farm in Illinois and 140MW Rockhaven wind farm in Oklahoma.
Rockhaven is due online by the end of 2021, Ranchland in the first quarter of 2022, and Alta Farms in the second half of 2022.
Enel is also adding two 57MW battery storage systems to two operational renewable energy projects in Texas, including the 500MW High Lonesome wind cluster. including the initial 450MW High Lonesome project and 50MW High Lonesome expansion. It expects to begin construction at High Lonesome – and at a 497MW solar PV array – this summer.
The developer has already started work on two additional Texan solar projects, each coupled with 59MW of battery storage: a 639.2MW project and a 270MW project.
The addition of battery storage will help bring resiliency to the grid, according to the company.
With these projects, Enel Green Power North America currently has over 2.3GW of renewable generation under construction, and by the middle of the year, it will have 606 MW of battery storage capacity under construction.
At Ranchland, Enel will use a combination of Vestas’ V110, V150 and V162 turbines and Siemens Gamesa’ SWT 2.3-108 model uprated to 2.415MW.
Meanwhile, at Rockhaven it will use Vestas’ V110, V120, and V150, and at Alta Farms it will deploy Siemens Gamesa’s SG108 and SG145 turbines.
