EDF Renewables will be expanding its portfolio of solar energy with the construction of three new solar farms in Wexford and Kilkenny counties, Ireland.
The projects will be among the first utility-scale solar farms to be built in Ireland and will have a total capacity of 17MW. The Coolroe Solar Farm which will be developed in Coolroe, Ballycullane in Wexford will have a total capacity of 5MW, whilst the Blusheens Solar Farm also in Wexford will have a total capacity of 8MW. The Curraghmartin Solar Farm in Kilkenny will have a total capacity of 4MW.
Construction is expected to start this May and last for 10 months. By February 2022, the projects are expected to be online to power at least 6,600 homes.
Each project was successful in the first round of the Irish Government’s Renewable Electricity Support Scheme last year, which will see them supply electricity at a pre-agreed price.
The projects are the first to begin construction following EDF Renewables’ acquisition of 100% of Wexford Solar Ltd last year, which included eight projects with over 100MW of capacity across the country.
