French renewable energy group GreenYellow announced the signing of a new contract to build the largest self-consumption solar power plant in Senegal.
The company, a subsidiary of the French Casino Group, will install a 1.56MWp solar power plant for Senico, a company specialising in the production and marketing of agri-food products. The solar power plant will power its facilities in the town of Diamniadio, near Dakar.
Diamniadio is still under construction and aims to be an ecological city. As such, Senico wants to contribute to this objective while reducing its electricity bills and its carbon footprint.
In order to further support Senico in achieving its environmental objectives and to provide an increased supply of green energy, expansion projects are already being considered. Also, GreenYellow hopes to be able to sign another contract with a second industry leader in the near future.
GreenYellow Senegal project adds to firm’s portfolio
With the signing of this new project, the renewables firm continues its ambition to consolidate its position as a player in the solar photovoltaic and green energy market in Africa, confirming the development of its business on the continent and firmly anchoring its presence in the territory.
Otmane Hajji, President of GreenYellow, commented on the contract: “GreenYellow is proud to support Senico in its ecological transition by providing it with environmentally friendly energy solutions that will enable it to produce and consume green electricity thanks to the largest self-consumption solar photovoltaic plant in Senegal.”
At the end of March 2021, GreenYellow has developed 355MWp of photovoltaic capacity, of which 184MWp is equity owned, and nearly 2,600 energy performance contracts for a volume of 855GWh per year, of which 511GWh is equity owned, and was managing more than 2.9 Wh of energy for its customers.
