ExxonMobil's refining and petrochemical assets in Baton Rouge were undamaged by Hurricane Ida and have begun restart procedures today.
The company's 500,000 b/d Baton Rouge refinery shut down some units ahead of the storm, which impacted production at as many as nine refineries in Louisiana, according to estimates released by the US Department of Energy today. A lack of power in the area led to a complete shutdown yesterday, but power has been restored to much of Baton Rouge today, leading to the startup.
The Exxon Baton Rouge refinery is one of the largest in Louisiana, with two large coking units and a recently restarted small coking unit, as well as robust chemical facilities featuring. The facility has 1.023mn t/y of ethylene capacity and 1.597mn t/yr of polyethylene capacity.
