Eni Adds New Field to Angola's Olombendo Crude Grade

27 Sep 2021  by argusmedia.com

Italian integrated oil firm Eni has started crude production from the Cabaca North project in Angola's deepwater block 15/06.

Cabaca North is tied back to the 100,000 b/d Armada Olombendo floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel and will feed into Angola's light sweet Olombendo grade. At peak, it will add 15,000 b/d to Olombendo output, helping to increase and sustain the grade's plateau production.

The Armada Olombendo already handles output from the Cabaca, Cabaca South East and UM8 fields, as well as the Cuica field which came on stream in July. Block 15/06 also hosts the Ndungu field, which Eni aims to start up within the next few months.

Eni operates the block with a 37pc stake. Angola's state-owned Sonangol and the Sonangol-Sinopec joint venture SSI hold 37pc and 26pc, respectively.

The Olombendo grade currently has a gravity of 35°API and sulphur content of 0.14pc. Exports have averaged 51,000 b/d so far this year, up from 47,000 b/d in 2020, according to Argus data.
