Plug Power is today (Nov 12) opening its hydrogen and fuel cell gigafactory in Monroe County, New York.
Capable of producing seven million MEAs/plates, 600,000 fuel cell stacks and 500MW of electrolysers annually, the facility marks a significant step-up in the company’s production and manufacturing capabilities.
It is believed the gigafactory will both create 375 jobs and bring material and component suppliers to the region.
Speaking about the facility back in January, Andy Marsh, President of Plug Power, said, “We are thrilled to expand in our home of New York, announcing Monroe County as the location for the world’s first PEM stack and electrolyser Plug Power innovation centre.
“Among many great options, none could match Rochester in terms of talent, local supplier networks, and opportunities to partner with top-tier research institutions.”
The opening ceremony will take place at 2pm ET today (Nov 12).
