China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) has announced that the 10.2GW Wudongde hydropower station hit the milestone of generating 50 billion kWh of electricity on 27 November, saving a total of over 15 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 41 million tons.
Wudongde has been in full operation for 1705 hours this year, and run at full capacity for 750 hours. During the winter, it saw its first annual overhaul since it was fully commissioned back in June 2021. The station formulated the Wudongde Hydropower Station's 2021-2022 Work Plan for Power Supply during Winter Peak Demand, and established a leading group and a task force to coordinate the operation and maintenance of its power units.
Wudongde, along with the 16GW Baihaten project, forms the second phase of the four large hydropower projects built downstream of the Jinsha River. The first phase involved the construction of the Xiluodu Hydropower Station and the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station.
