Siemens Gamesa's prototype 14-222 DD offshore wind turbine has started producing electricity at the test site at Osterild in Denmark.
The company described the event as an “amazing milestone” and an “important step towards a greener future”.
The turbine has a rotor diameter of 222 metres and features the company's new B108 blades.
Siemens Gamesa has secured orders for the 14MW model for offshore wind farms in the US and Asia-Pacific.
