Independent solar power producer (IPP) Sonnedix Power Holdings Ltd said today it has acquired a 16.4-MW solar project in Japan from a unit of China’s Trina Solar Co Ltd (SHA:688599).
The asset was sold by Trina Solar International System Business Unit (ISBU) in Japan – Trina Solar Japan Energy for an undisclosed amount.
The specific project is located in Tochigi Prefecture and is currently under development. Its construction is slated to begin early next year, with the solar farm expected to go online by the third quarter of 2023.
Sonnedix has been operating on the Japanese market since 2013. At present, its Japanese arm Sonnedix Japan KK manages more than 500 MW of capacity, including a development pipeline of over 40 MW. Last month, it reached financial close for the 45-MW Koriyama solar photovoltaic (PV) project, which is seen to be completed in early 2024.
Sonnedix noted it continues to “actively look” for further investments that will expand its platform in Japan and other OECD markets.
