MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Denmark’s Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011), announced that the successful installation of the first of 33 V164-8.4 MW turbines took place on June 3.
Meanwhile, Van Oord, which serves as the Balance of Plant contractor for the project, said it had installed over 40 km of inter array cables, forming the connection between the turbines and the offshore substation. The firm used the Nexus vessel to install a smart web of cables at 40 metres water depth and then deployed the Dig-It trencher to bury the cables below the seabed. Another Van Oord offshore installation vessel, Aeolus, is tasked with turbine installation.
According to Van Oord’s statement, the wind park is expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2019.
The Deutsche Bucht project company is 100%-owned by Canada-based power producer Northland Power Inc (TSE:NPI).
