Swedish Baseload Capital, through subsidiary Baseload Power Japan, has announced the start of operations of their fourth geothermal power plant in Japan. This is the second phase of the Sansui Geothermal Power Plant, increasing the facility’s power generation capacity to 700 MWh annually, roughly equivalent to the consumption of 200 households.
We had previously reported on the completion of the first phase of the Sansui Geothermal Power Plant only earlier this year. In addition to Japan, Baseload Capital also has international projects in Taiwan, Iceland, and the U.S.
The Sansui Geothermal Power Plant has been built in partnership with Furusato Power generation and the Sansui hot spring inn. As with Baseload’s previously completed geothermal plant, the newest power plant utilizes technology supplied by Climeon.

Located in an abundant geothermal area where steam spouts everywhere, in a mountainous hot spring area with a population of about 7,000 at the foot of the Kuju mountain range in Wata Onsenkyo, in Oguni-machi, Aso-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture. The area is rich in geothermal resources, with six hot spring areas with different spring qualities scattered around, and steam-blowing sources can be seen everywhere.
