SJVN, Tata Power Sign Deal for 1,000MW Solar Project in Rajasthan

India’s Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) entered a contract with M/s Tata Power Solar Systems Limited for the development of a 1,000-megawatt (MW) solar project at Bikaner, Rajasthan.

In a statement, SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Shri Nand Lal Sharma said the engineering, procurement, and construction contract is worth $707.96m (INR55b), the largest contract awarded so far in India.

The contract includes delivery of an end-to-end commissioned solar plant to SJVN , which include provision of land on a lump-sum basis, power exhaust system to ISTS (interstate power transmission system) substation, and operation and maintenance of the solar photovoltaic plant for three years.

The project, which is expected to be commissioned by May 2024, will generate about 2,455 million units of electricity in the first year after commissioning and will generate about 56,838 million units over the period of 25 years.

It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 27,85,077 tonnes in 25 years. The company added that bagged the project through the Indian Government’s central public sector undertaking scheme.

SJVN’s portfolio is currently around 31,500MW and has also engaged in power transmission and power trading. Its recently acquired projects support its goal to reach 5,000MW by 2023, 25,000MW by 2030, and 50,000MW by 2040.
