GE Starts Turbine Production for 480-MW Saint-Nazaire Offshore Wind Farm

10 Oct 2019

GE Renewable Energy has kickstarted the production of turbines that will populate the 480-MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm off the west coast of France.

The company said Wednesday that turbine components and other materials were being delivered to the GE assembly and test plant in Saint-Nazaire. There, the nacelle assembly will begin in the second quarter of 2020, while installation and commissioning are expected in 2022.

The renewables division of General Electric (NYSE:GE) will supply 80 units of Haliade 150-6MW wind turbines for the project and service the fleet under a multi-year maintenance contract.

The wind farm’s promoter is Eolien Maritime France (EMF), a joint venture between the renewables arm of French power utility EDF (EPA:EDF) and Canadian energy company Enbridge Inc (TSE:ENB).

After completing the order for the 480-MW park, the Saint-Nazaire plant will be converted to manufacture GE’s 12-MW Haliade-X offshore wind turbines, the company said.
