China Group Will Design And Build a Transmission Network And Its Substations in Mozambique

Aconsortium of state-owned enterprises from China will design and build a transmission network and its substations in Mozambique under a contract signed with Mozambican state power company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), China Energy Engineering International Co., Ltd. said in a statement.

The announcement said that the consortium was formed on 26 September by the China Energy Engineering Corp (CEEC) group and its subsidiary China Energy Engineering International Co., Ltd.

The contract includes the installation of two 400 kilovolt transmission lines, one 110-kilometres long and one 228 kilometres long, as well as the construction or expansion of five power substations in the Chibata and Dondo regions.

The project will strengthen the stability and security of energy supply in the centre and north of the country, the company said.

This is CEEC’s first project in the Mozambican electricity sector, the statement said.

Somagec Mozambique, another subsidiary of CEEC, by 2022 under a contract with EDM will build a coal-fired power station in the Nacala-a-Velha district, Nampula province, with a capacity to produce 200 megawatts of electricity.
