The Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation held its first meeting at the Sharm el-Sheikh Climate Change Conference 2022 and named the six pillars and enablers the group will focus on.
In a statement, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said these six pillars involved renewables, green hydrogen, bioenergy with carbon capture, utilisation and storage, heat process optimisation, human capital, and finance.
“We have less than a decade left to secure a fighting chance for a 1.5°C world. Climate action needs industry leaders. This Alliance stands for the growing commitment of global industry to act on decarbonisation,” said IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera.
The industrial sector is the second largest emitter after power generation, with over 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and accounting for about 40% of global consumption.
