Statkraft to Buy Electricity From Iberdrola’s Third Polish Windfarm

05 Jan 2023  by https://www.powerengineeringint.

Iberdrola has started commissioning a 50MW windfarm in Poland.

The Korytnica II project is 80 km from Warsaw in the province of Węgrów.

It comprises 14 Vestas turbines with a hub height of 132 metres and a 3.6 MW unit capacity.

Iberdrola has revealed that during construction it faced several challenges, including “the improvement of soil conditions in some of the foundations, and the stabilization of access roads with soil-cement to avoid the transportation of scarce gravel from hundreds of kilometres away”.

Statkraft will buy the wind farm’s output via a power purchase agreement, backed by a contract for difference won in the fourth auction held in Poland in June 2021.

Full operation of this facility is scheduled by the end of this year’s first quarter.

This will bring Iberdrola’s onshore wind capacity in Poland to 163MW: the company already operates the 30MW Zopowy wind farm and Korytnica I, which is 82.5MW).

Iberdrola has recently announced a global investment of €17bn in renewable energy by 2025, 24% of which will be earmarked for European Union countries. Of the €17bn, more than €4.2bn will be allocated to onshore wind projects.
