The Cameroonian government plans to halve fuel subsidies in 2023. Indeed, the authorities are expected to allocate for the subsidies in 2023 only half of the XAF700bn (US$1.2bn) budgeted for 2022. Consequently, pump prices are expected to rise. However, the government intends to reduce some taxes to limit the impact on consumers.
The prices of oil products in Cameroon are slightly higher than the regional average. In 2021, prices were US$1.13/l for gasoline and US$1.13/l for diesel.
